BBA football team drops semi-final match to Rice Memorial

SOUTH BURLINGTON - Casey Tipson ran for 134 yards, Billy O'Brien added 121 yards on the ground and top-seeded Rice overcame an early deficit to pull away from No. 4 Burr and Burton, 36-14, in a Division II high school football semifinal Saturday afternoon.

Behind 14-6 at halftime, Rice struck for 30 unanswered points to book its second title-game appearance in three years. The Green Knights, who won the D-II crown in 2010, will play Bellows Falls on Saturday.

O'Brien's third-quarter touchdown, his second of the game, tied it up while Rice forged ahead on a Tipson's TD dash and Tommy Fitzgerald's 30-yard interception return for another score. Charlie Boardman had Rice's final touchdown, on a quarterback sneak.

BBA (6-4) scored on its first two possessions, Chris Redding on a 12-yard run and Eric Cerra on a 7-yard screen pass from Stalcup, who finished 13 of 28 for 162 yards. BBA also forced three Rice turnovers in the first half, but failed to turn those miscues into points.
